Duncan Garage Café and Bakery Ltd. in Duncan BC location needs 1 Permanent Full Time Baker .
Salary $21.00 per hour , 8 hours per day , 5 days a week , flexible shift , flexible days off .

Work shifts schedule are expected to be shifts 7.5 hours up to 8 hours , depending on the business operation, these shifts continuously vary from early morning , afternoon and evening shifts.
As a Senior Baker at Duncan Garage Cafe & Bakery, you will take on a integral role in the preparation of a wide variety of baked goods, with a special emphasis on European-style breads, pastries, and desserts. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and consistency, while also overseeing the baking team, managing production schedules, and contributing to the development of new recipes. This position requires an experienced baker with a deep understanding of baking techniques and the ability to manage a fast-paced bakery environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Baking and Preparation:
• Lead the preparation and baking of a wide range of items, including, pastries, cakes, cookies, and other baked goods, following established recipes and production schedules.
• Measure and mix ingredients accurately to ensure consistent quality and taste, with a focus on traditional European baking techniques.
• Monitor baking times and temperatures to achieve the desired results, making adjustments as necessary.
Recipe Development:
• Develop, test, and refine new recipes to expand the bakery’s offerings.
• Modify recipes to accommodate special dietary needs or customer requests.
• Provide input on seasonal or specialty items to enhance the menu, bringing a creative and authentic approach to baking.
• Experience in baking Gluten Free options
Quality Control:
• Ensure all baked goods meet the bakery’s quality standards for taste, texture, and presentation, with attention to detail
• Inspect products for consistency and freshness, discarding or reworking items as needed.
• Keep detailed records of baking times, ingredient usage, and any modifications to recipes.
Health and Safety:
• Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring the baking area is clean and organized at all times.
• Properly store and label all ingredients, ensuring compliance with health regulations.
• Follow all safety procedures when using kitchen equipment and tools.
Inventory and Ordering:
• Monitor ingredient levels and notify the Kitchen Manager of any shortages or ordering needs, with a focus on organic and local ingredients.
• Assist with receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring that ingredients are properly labeled and rotated.
• Manage inventory of baked goods to minimize waste and maximize freshness.
Team Collaboration:
• Work with the baking team, ensuring smooth operations and high standards of productivity.
• Work closely with other kitchen staff to coordinate the production of baked goods for service.
• Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff regarding special orders or customer requests.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions as needed, providing guidance and support to junior bakers.
Customer Interaction:
• Occasionally interact with customers to discuss special orders, dietary requirements, or custom baking needs.
• Provide excellent customer service, ensuring customer satisfaction with baked goods.
Additional Duties:
• Assist with decorating cakes, pastries, and other baked goods as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager, Bakery Lead.
Education and Qualifications:
• Formal Education: A diploma or certification in Baking and Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience:
At least 5 years of professional baking experience. Previous experience in a senior or supervisory role is highly desirable.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in traditional European baking techniques, including bread and pastry making.
• Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team, with strong communication skills.
• Certifications:
Food Safe Level 1 or equivalent is required. Additional certifications in advanced baking techniques or management are a plus.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and work in a kitchen environment for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity to handle baking tools and equipment
