Hog Farm Supervisor Job Description (NOC 84120):
Pork Production Technicians carry out feeding, health and breeding programs on our wean to farrow swine farm. Overall duties include caring for the breeding herd and growing pigs in their development from birth to market, including feeding, watering, care, stockmanship, and keeping a safe and sanitary barn environment.
Responsibilities:
• Engaged in all day-to-day operation within the specific area of the swine production unit assigned (i.e. breeding, farrowing, weaning, washing)
• Recognize and treat certain livestock health problems
• Maintain herd health records
• Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns
• Manure handling
• Monitor and maintain appropriate ventilation and temperature in barns
• Perform other related duties as required, such as general maintenance of facilities.
Requirements:
• At least 2-3 years of experience in working on a farm in a specialised worker capacity, but preference for specific swine farm experience is preferred.
• A college or other non university certificate or diploma, of 1 or more years in a farming occupation, or an alternative qualification with specific experience may be considered.
• An in Depth Knowledge of pig breeding and genetics, is advantageous.
• Ability to work in a team of farm workers effectively
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Proficiency in record-keeping and data analysis
• Understanding of animal welfare regulations and compliance
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Physically fit and able to perform manual labor as needed
Wage and Benefits:
• A wage of C$20.50 per hour is offered to successful applicants for guaranteed 40 hours per week.
