Adega (meaning wine cellar) is a popular restaurant in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Serving Portuguese food, we have taken old recipes and cooking techniques and matched them with modern flavours and other complementary styles of cuisine. Some dishes need no refining at all and are served in their authentic form. Our specialty is seafood, and it is sourced from all over the world.
Due to the busyness of our restaurant and growing operations, Adega is seeking a skilled and experienced professional to join its team as a full-time permanent Assistant Manager. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Portuguese cuisine, excellent service skills, exceptional managerial skills, and the ability to uphold the restaurant’s high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities of an Assistant Manager will include the following:
- Manage, coordinate, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the restaurant.
- Decide on the types of services to be offered and establish operational protocols.
- Hire staff and manage their training programs.
- Create staff schedules and track performance.
- Oversee inventory control, monitor financial performance, and adjust procedures and pricing as needed.
- Address customer concerns and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Negotiate with suppliers for food and other necessary supplies.
- Coordinate agreements with clients for catering services or facility rentals for events such as banquets or receptions.
An ideal candidate for this position will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Possess strong leadership and team management abilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to customer service excellence.
- Be highly organized, with exceptional time management skills, and capable of multitasking effectively.
- Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to address challenges and ensure smooth operations.
- Have knowledge of health and safety standards, technical understanding of POS systems, and be proficient in usage of Microsoft office.
- Be at least a high school graduate.
- Have 3+ years of work experience in food services.
- Have 1+ years of managerial experience.
- Proficiency in Portuguese is an asset.
This is a full-time position with a fixed hourly wage of $34.07/hour based on minimum 30-hour work week.
This position will be eligible to receive commission, and 2 weeks vacation (4% vacation pay).
