Job Summary:

Stratus51 provides industry-leading structured cabling, networking, IoT and Physical Security solutions and is located in Ottawa. As our operations continue to grow, we are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Cable Technician to join our team.

The Cable Technician will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth execution of all network installations and cabling projects, and will act as a central point of coordination between internal departments, subcontractors, clients, and vendors. This position requires a solid foundation of computer hardware design, network functionality, programming and implementation/role out of networks. This position is ideal for a self-starter with excellent communication skills and the ability to support fast-paced, client-driven operations. The successful candidate will contribute directly to the success of Stratus51’s projects and ensure successful completion and execution of our key projects.

Duties and responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

• Planning network installations by studying work order, manuals, and technical specifications.
• Installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining security systems including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection and fire alarm systems.
• Setting up of VLANS and Wide area networks as well as Wi-Fi implementations is required.
• Ensuring all security systems are functioning properly and are in compliance with local codes and regulations.
• Conducting regular maintenance and testing of security systems to ensure optimal performance.
• Identifying and resolving technical issues related to security systems and escalating complex problems to management.
• Creating and maintaining accurate documentation of all security system installations, upgrades and repairs.
• Programming of various systems (ICT, CDVI, Kantech, Feenics, Hanwha, HiK, Aiphone, ComeLite, Algo, Atlona).
• Pulling various type of cables i.e., Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Coax, Fiber and various backbone cable
• Assisting in testing of installed equipment and providing basic programming, such as, adding card readers, cameras and alarm points.
• Performing preventive maintenance and repair as per a client maintenance agreement and/or warranty work.
• Assisting in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing systems and/or equipment.
• Participation in an on-call rotation schedule.
• Answering client calls after normal working hours and on weekend/holidays depending on the rotation order.
• Responsibility for updating team lead on the status of all work performed on a daily basis.
• Notifying the team lead daily of any materials needed to complete duties.
• Performing additional Quality Control Verification of installations.
• Providing training to users on security system operations and maintenance.
• Installing small, medium, and large projects.
• Supervising a team of technicians so industry standards are maintained.
• Performing material inventory, ordering some materials, supplies, gathering testing equipment.
• Ensuring projects are kept within budget.
• Installing cable support (J hook), cable trays and racks.
• Terminating all different manufacturer’s connectors, termination of fiber/fusion splicing and switching configuration and activation of switch ports/cross-connecting.
• Maintaining safe environments by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
• Remaining current with industry trends and advances in security technology to provide recommendations on system upgrades and enhancements.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure security systems are integrated with other building systems and processes.

Qualifications:

• Minimum three-year diploma in computing technology, computer networks, computer networks maintenance, or other related computer technology field.
• 1+ year of experience in cabling, computer network design, or maintenance.
• 1+ year of experience in telecommunications testing and/or troubleshooting.
• 1+ year of experience in security system installation (for example: CCTV, access control, intrusion system or other security systems).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Company software knowledge in the following: systems surveyor, and proficiency in fluke label splicing.
• Ability to troubleshoot various network systems.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
• Strong knowledge of security systems and equipment installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Discretion in handling confidential information.
• Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
